Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover
While you shouldn't judge persons by their appearance, it's fine sometimes to judge a book by its cover. The Library recently hosted a Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover Drawing for National Library Week in April. The drawing pointed out how book covers are designed specially to draw you in and tell you a little bit about what's inside, so it doesn't always hurt to pick your next read by looking at the cover.
To enter the drawing, patrons had to pick a book cover that drew them in. Our $25 winner, Eli L., chose The Last Kids on Earth by Max Brallier, illustrated by Douglas Holgate. The book is about middle schoolers surviving the zombie apocalypse, which couldn't be more obvious from the cover. |
We had a few fun submissions, like What if I had Animal Teeth? an educational title that teaches about, you guessed it, animal teeth, and encourages children to imagine what they would do with teeth like that. The illustrations are something to see.
We hope everyone enjoyed seeing all the book covers on display. We encourage you to stop by and pick out your next book by the cover!
Want more opportunities to have fun and earn prizes? Our 2022 Summer Reading Program is almost here! Registration began May 1st, and the kick-off will be on June 2nd! Check out our website for updates

Her dog and two grandchildren keep her hopping, as they love spending time outdoors. She keeps herself hopping by reading, writing, and traveling. When she sits still, she enjoys her home in Marietta, GA.

of race and its effects on the life of our country. Along the way, Frye became fascinated by the heroes of that struggle, not only the icons like John Lewis, Rosa Parks, or Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but by the thousands of lesser-known people who committed their lives to the cause of justice. In that context, he was honored to join Marti Rosner and KaArie Gillis in telling the story of Julius Rosenwald, a Jewish philanthropist in the early 20th century who worked with Booker T. Washington and grassroots leaders in more than 5,000 communities to change the face of African American education in the South. Gaillard's other books for young readers include Go South to Freedom and, with Marti, The Slave Who Went to Congress. He is also the author of A Hard Rain: America in the 1960s.
