Family Readers: “Aspiring readers are just beginning to grasp the basic concepts of book and print. These readers require assistance.” Family Readers are read to by family members and cannot yet read on their own, though they know a few words. Suggested For Grades Pre-K - 1st Ages 3 - 6 ----- Early Readers: “Beginning to read independently, reading is more automatic, with more energy devoted to comprehension than word attack. “ Early Readers can read on their own, but may require some assistance on occasion, especially with word definitions. Suggested For Grades 2nd - 6th Ages 7 - 11 ----- Independent Readers: “Readers have successfully moved from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” Independent Readers can read entirely on their own without any assistance. Suggested For Grades 7th - 12th Ages 12 - 18
